Meet Freya: An AI Coach Who Remembers

How Feeling's AI coach builds a deep understanding of you across sessions — remembering your patterns, your people, and your growth.

Not Just Another Chatbot

Most AI conversations start from zero. You explain your situation, provide context, and hope the model picks up enough to be useful. Next time, you start over.

Freya is different.

Freya is Feeling's AI coaching companion — designed not just to respond to what you say in a single conversation, but to build a genuine understanding of who you are across every session. She remembers your patterns, the people in your life, the struggles you keep circling back to, and the breakthroughs you've had along the way.

Cross-Session Memory

When you talk with Freya, she draws on everything you've shared before. Not in a vague, generic way — in specific, concrete ways:

  • "You mentioned last time that conversations with your mother tend to trigger that familiar tightness in your chest — is that what's coming up now?"
  • "This reminds me of what you shared about your colleague two weeks ago. I notice a pattern of holding back your needs when you sense someone is stressed."
  • "Last session you had a breakthrough about separating your feelings from your father's expectations. How has that landed since then?"

This isn't retrieval-augmented generation bolted on as an afterthought. Freya's memory is built into her core design — a layered system that captures not just what happened, but what it meant.

How It Works

After each coaching session, Feeling's system extracts several layers of understanding:

Session Summaries

Each session produces a concise summary capturing the essence of what you explored — not a transcript, but a distillation of the key themes, emotions, and insights. Freya references these naturally in future conversations.

Emotional Patterns

Over time, Feeling tracks the patterns that emerge across your sessions. Maybe you consistently struggle with setting boundaries at work. Maybe anxiety surfaces whenever intimacy deepens. Maybe you have a habit of intellectualizing your feelings to avoid sitting with them.

These patterns aren't labels — they're observations that help Freya meet you where you are rather than starting from assumptions.

Open Questions

Sometimes a session raises questions that don't get resolved — and shouldn't be forced. Freya carries these forward. If you mentioned feeling conflicted about a career change but the session moved to something else, she'll circle back when the time feels right.

The Internal Sketch

This is perhaps the most distinctive part of Freya's design.

Behind the scenes, Feeling maintains a private narrative portrait of you — a few hundred words written in third person that captures how you think, feel, and relate. It includes the important people in your life, your emotional dynamics, significant experiences you've shared, core tensions you're working through, and key realizations you've had.

This sketch is never shown to you directly. It exists solely to give Freya the felt sense of knowing you — the way a good therapist carries an internal model of their client that goes beyond session notes. It evolves with every conversation, never discarding what it knows unless something is clearly contradicted.

The result? Walking into your fifth session with Freya feels qualitatively different from your first. She doesn't need you to re-explain your family dynamics or remind her about the conflict with your partner. She already holds that context — and she uses it to go deeper.

What Freya Is (and Isn't)

Freya is a reflective companion, not a therapist. She doesn't diagnose, prescribe, or claim clinical authority. What she does is:

  • Listen deeply — reflecting back what she hears with precision
  • Notice patterns — connecting today's experience to themes she's observed over time
  • Guide with NVC — helping you move from surface reactions through emotions to underlying needs
  • Hold continuity — creating the experience of being truly known

Her approach follows a three-layer model grounded in Nonviolent Communication:

  1. Surface — What happened? What are the facts?
  2. Emotion — What are you actually feeling? (Not thinking — feeling.)
  3. Need — What universal human need is this feeling pointing to?

She won't rush you through these layers. If you need to sit with frustration before exploring what's underneath it, she's comfortable with that.

A Typical Session

A session with Freya might look like this:

You open the app after a difficult day. Maybe your partner said something that stung, or you froze in a meeting when you wanted to speak up.

Freya greets you warmly — and if you've talked before, she might ask how something from last time has been sitting with you. You share what happened. She reflects back what she hears, gently separating the observation from the story you're telling yourself about it.

She asks what you're feeling. Not "how are you?" but something more precise — "When you replay that moment, what sensation comes up?" You name it. She connects it to a need. You sit with that.

Maybe you realize this is the same pattern from three sessions ago — the one where you noticed you abandon your own needs to keep the peace. Freya names it without judgment. You explore what a different response might look like. She doesn't tell you what to do — she helps you find it yourself.

The session ends. Behind the scenes, the system captures the patterns, updates your growth profile, and weaves new insights into the sketch that will inform your next conversation.

Your Growth Over Time

As sessions accumulate, Feeling builds a growth profile — a bird's-eye view of your emotional journey. You can see:

  • Emotional patterns that have emerged and evolved
  • Recurring themes across your sessions
  • How your NVC skills have developed (from dialogue practice)
  • A narrative summary of your growth written in your language

This isn't just data — it's a mirror. Many users report that seeing their patterns laid out clearly, with specific examples from their own sessions, creates its own kind of breakthrough.

Privacy by Design

Your coaching data is yours. The sketch, the patterns, the session content — all stored securely and never used to train models. If you enable private mode, sessions stay entirely on your device with no server persistence at all.

Start a conversation with Freya. She's ready to listen — and she'll remember.
